Customs Area Controller Strengthens Security Collaboration with NSCDC in Ibadan

Ibadan, March 18, 2025 – The Customs Area Controller of the Oyo/Osun Area Command, Comptroller Joseph Olugbuyi Adelaja, has reaffirmed the Nigeria Customs Service's (NCS) commitment to inter-agency collaboration during a courtesy visit to the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) Headquarters in Ibadan.

Comptroller Adelaja, who was accompanied by senior officers of the command, commended the NSCDC for its dedication to safeguarding national assets and maintaining public security. He emphasized that both agencies share a common responsibility of protecting Nigeria’s borders and ensuring the safety of its citizens.

Highlighting the purpose of the visit, the Customs boss stressed the need to strengthen the existing synergy between the NCS and NSCDC, particularly in intelligence sharing, capacity building, and public sensitization. He noted that effective collaboration would enhance security operations and facilitate the suppression of smuggling, a key mandate of the Customs Service.

In his response, the NSCDC Oyo State Commandant, Mr. Augustine Ayodeji Padonu, welcomed the Customs delegation and reaffirmed the NSCDC’s longstanding cooperation with the NCS. He assured that the agency would continue to foster a strong working relationship with the Customs Service to enhance national security.

Commandant Padonu further emphasized the need for intelligence-driven operations and the elimination of unhealthy rivalry between officers of both agencies. He called for sensitization programs to ensure that personnel at all levels understand their shared mandate of protecting lives, property, and the nation's borders.

In conclusion, Comptroller Adelaja, speaking on behalf of the Comptroller General of Customs, BA Adeniyi, MFR, fnipr, expressed gratitude to the NSCDC leadership for their warm reception and reaffirmed the NCS’s commitment to fostering a stronger partnership with the Corps.
