First Lady Oluremi Tinubu Flags Off Distribution of Professional Kits to Midwives in South-South Nigeria

The First Lady of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has launched the distribution of professional kits to midwives in the South-South geopolitical zone, a project spearheaded by the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI). The event, held in Asaba, Delta State, is part of the administration’s broader commitment to improving healthcare delivery across Nigeria.  

Speaking at the flag-off, Senator Tinubu emphasized that healthcare requires not only skills and compassion but also the right tools and infrastructure. She reassured Nigerians that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration is committed to strengthening the health sector to ensure better maternal and child healthcare outcomes.  
 “This event is to complement the ongoing Federal Government retraining exercise for 120,000 frontline health workers nationwide. Already, 59,570 health workers have completed their training, and as an incentive, the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI) has procured 60,000 branded scrubs and 60,000 pairs of Crocs to support and encourage our midwives,” she said.  

The South-South zone received an allocation of 10,000 scrubs and 10,000 pairs of Crocs, to be distributed across the states in the region. All six geopolitical zones will benefit from this initiative.  
Boost for Petty Traders: N50m Grant Announced 

In a significant economic empowerment move, Senator Tinubu announced a N50 million business re-capitalization grant for 1,000 petty traders in Delta State. Governor Sheriff Oborevwori pledged to match the grant with an additional N50 million, bringing the total to 2,000 traders benefiting from the initiative.  

> “In the spirit of today’s event, the Renewed Hope Initiative will be presenting an additional grant of ₦50 million to the First Lady of Delta State and RHI State Coordinator to support another set of 1,000 women petty traders, each receiving ₦50,000 to recapitalize their existing businesses,” Tinubu stated.  

She recalled that 1,000 women had already benefited from a similar program during her last visit to the state in August 2024.  

Delta Governor, Health Minister Applaud First Lady’s Efforts  

Governor Sheriff Oborevwori commended Senator Tinubu for her dedication to improving the lives of Nigerians, especially in healthcare. He noted that the health sector is undergoing a transformation, leading to better life expectancy and overall improved healthcare services.  

Similarly, the Minister of State for Health and Social Welfare, Dr. Iziaq Salako, reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to making healthcare accessible and affordable, particularly for pregnant women and mothers  

Traditional Rulers Pledge Support for President Tinubu  

Before the flag-off event, Senator Tinubu visited the Delta State Traditional Rulers Council Chambers, where she met with royal fathers during their monthly meeting, chaired by the Orodje of Okpe, HRM Major General Felix Mujak Peruo.  

The traditional rulers expressed appreciation for the efforts of President Tinubu’s administration and pledged their continued support, including for his potential re-election in 2027.  
The distribution of professional kits was later presented to the wives of governors and RHI state coordinators for the South-South region by Senator Tinubu, in her capacity as the RHI National Chairman.  

Since its inception in 2023, the Renewed Hope Initiative has provided targeted interventions in Agriculture, Economic Empowerment, Education, Health, and Social Investment, aimed at improving the lives of Nigerian families.  

This latest initiative further underscores the Tinubu administration’s commitment to empowering healthcare workers and supporting economic growth at the grassroots level.
