IGP Egbetokun Commissions Nigeria Police Intelligence School in Kwara, Delivers Maiden Alumni Lecture at Al-Hikmah University

The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM, has officially commissioned the newly completed Nigeria Police Intelligence School in Share, Kwara State. The historic event, which took place on Wednesday, April 17, 2025, marks a significant milestone in the ongoing reform and modernization efforts of the Nigeria Police Force.

IGP Egbetokun was accompanied by top-ranking police officers, including the Deputy Inspectors-General of Police overseeing the Force Intelligence Department and the Department of Logistics and Supply, DIGs Benjamin Nebeolisa Okolo, fdc, and Adebola Ayinde Hamzat, fdc, as well as the Commissioner of Police in charge of Kwara State, CP Ojo Adekimi.

The commissioning was graced by the Executive Governor of Kwara State, Mallam Abdulrahman Abdulrasaq, CON, who was ably represented by the Honourable Commissioner for Local Government, Chieftaincy Affairs and Community Development, Honourable Abubakar Abdullahi Bata. In his remarks, the Governor lauded the IGP’s vision and commitment to strengthening intelligence capabilities within the Force to better tackle crime across the country.

The Nigeria Police Intelligence School is designed to serve as a center for excellence in intelligence training. It will offer advanced programs in intelligence gathering and analysis, cybercrime investigations, forensic science, and counter-terrorism, among others. The institution will not only cater to police personnel but will also be open to operatives from other security and intelligence agencies.

Speaking at the event, IGP Egbetokun emphasized the necessity of adopting a proactive, intelligence-led, and community-based approach to policing. He assured the host community that the school would commence full operations immediately and would operate at full capacity to deliver on its mandate.

In a related event, the IGP also delivered the maiden lecture at the Distinguished Alumni Public Lecture Series of the Centre for Peace and Security Studies (CPSS) at Al-Hikmah University, Ilorin. Serving as the first-ever Guest Lecturer in the series, he presented a paper titled “Effective Policing of Nigeria for Sustainable Peace and Development: Role of Stakeholders.”

During his lecture, the police chief underscored the multifaceted nature of security, which he said goes beyond kinetic responses to include environmental, economic, human, and food security. He called for stronger collaboration among the police, academic institutions, and local communities in achieving a safer and more peaceful Nigeria.

IGP Egbetokun reiterated the Force’s dedication to enhancing intelligence capacity and fostering public trust through consistent community engagement. He also encouraged citizens to partner with the police by embracing the use of CCTV and other lawful technologies to help prevent crime and improve national security.
