UNILAG Arts Students Seek Lagos Tourism Ministry's Support for Upcoming Arts Festival

The Special Adviser to the Lagos State Governor on Tourism, Arts and Culture, Mr. Idris Aregbe, has pledged support for the upcoming Festival of Nigerian Arts (TG3) being organised by the Faculty of Arts Students Association of the University of Lagos (UNILAG).

Mr. Aregbe gave the assurance when he received the association’s executive council, led by its President, Mr. Adekanye Oluwaseun Ibikunoluwa, during a courtesy visit to his office at the Secretariat, Alausa, on Thursday.

The TG3 festival, slated for May 2025 at the UNILAG Main Auditorium, is aimed at showcasing Nigeria’s diverse cultural heritage through performances and exhibitions. At least six tertiary institutions—including UNILAG, LASU, YABATECH, and FCET—are expected to participate.

While commending the students for their vision, Aregbe advised them to focus on quality delivery. “If this is your first major event, it’s better to execute fewer activities excellently,” he noted, recommending a three-day format for better organisation.

He further suggested that the grand finale be held at the J. Randle Centre for Yoruba Culture and History to offer participants a rich cultural experience and promote one of Lagos State’s key heritage sites. “Let your peers from other institutions witness the great cultural work we’re doing,” he added.

Aregbe described tertiary institutions as hubs of emerging talent and encouraged collaboration with established figures in the arts and theatre community to boost visibility and mentorship opportunities.

Responding, Mr. Adekanye expressed gratitude to the Ministry for its ongoing support of youth-led initiatives. He emphasized the importance of the proposed partnership in enriching the scope and impact of the festival. “We believe this collaboration will create a lasting platform for cultural exchange, performance, and creative expression among students,” he said.

The Festival of Nigerian Arts (TG3) aims to become a cornerstone cultural event that bridges institutions and celebrates the richness of Nigeria’s artistic legacy.
