CGC Adeniyi Commissions School, Healthcare Centre in Sagbokoji Under 'Customs Cares' Initiative

In a remarkable show of corporate social responsibility, the Comptroller General of Customs (CGC), Adewale Adeniyi, on Wednesday, April 30, 2025, commissioned a newly renovated Local Authority Primary School and a Primary Healthcare Centre in the Sagbokoji community, Amuwo-Odofin Local Government Area of Lagos State.

The intervention, executed under the Nigeria Customs Service’s (NCS) Customs Cares initiative, reflects the Service’s commitment to supporting its host communities beyond its traditional roles of revenue generation, trade facilitation, and anti-smuggling.

Addressing stakeholders and residents during the commissioning, CGC Adeniyi reiterated the Service’s resolve to improve the quality of life in border and maritime communities. “We are undertaking projects that will have direct impact on our schools and our students. We have brought school bags, exercise books, textbooks, and sandals for all pupils of this school. We are also improving infrastructure, and I’m happy that through Apapa Area Command and our stakeholders, we’ve been able to deliver this project successfully,” he stated.

Highlighting the importance of healthcare in community development, Adeniyi added, “We understand that the needs of this community go beyond what we have done today, but this is our first step in building an enduring partnership with Sagbokoji.”

Comptroller Babatunde Olomu, Customs Area Controller of the Apapa Command, emphasized that the project demonstrates the Service’s deep-rooted concern for the communities it serves. “Customs is more than revenue and enforcement. Our compassion for our host communities inspired this project. For the past four weeks, we worked day and night, with the unwavering support of our stakeholders, to ensure this dream became a reality,” he said.

Chairman of Amuwo-Odofin Local Government Area, Engr. Valentine Buraimoh, in his goodwill message, commended the Customs Service for what he described as an unprecedented gesture. “This is the first time we’re seeing uniformed officers in leadership commissioning such impactful community projects. I sincerely thank the NCS for this laudable intervention.”

Also speaking, Headmaster of LA Primary School, Mr. Oladeyo Emmanuel, expressed gratitude to the Customs Service, stating that the renovation has significantly uplifted the morale of teachers and pupils alike.

The event featured the symbolic distribution of educational materials to pupils and the formal commissioning of both the newly upgraded school and healthcare facility, signaling a renewed partnership between the Nigeria Customs Service and the Sagbokoji community.
