CONMMEP Holds AGM, Inaugurates New Leadership Led by Udo Onyeka
The Congress of Nigerian Maritime Media Practitioners (CONMMEP) held its Annual General Meeting (AGM) on Thursday, May 1, 2025, in Lagos, ushering in a new era of leadership with the inauguration of a fresh executive team led by Comrade Udo Onyeka as the new President.
The AGM served as both a platform for reflection and forward planning, as outgoing President, Alhaji Tunde Umar-Daniah, delivered a heartfelt address recounting the achievements of his three-year tenure. “I am filled with pride and nostalgia,” he said. “We have built a formidable organization under my watch, and I am confident the new leadership will take CONMMEP to greater heights.”
The event also featured a series of thought-provoking lectures designed to enhance the skills and perspectives of maritime media professionals. Dayo Bamgbala, Publisher of iReports Online, presented a paper titled “Maximizing News Websites”, exploring the integration of digital tools and platforms in modern journalism.
Chief Darlington Momoh Umoru, a security expert and Editor-in-Chief of Elation Magazine, followed with a timely presentation on “The Media and National Security”, where he underscored the critical role of media professionals in preserving national stability.
In a similar vein, Alfred Omenihu, Editor-in-Chief of National Impact Magazine, delivered a session on “Opportunities in Core Printing for Media Practitioners”, offering insights into the evolving dynamics of media production and monetization.
In his inaugural speech, newly sworn-in President Comrade Udo Onyeka pledged to foster inclusivity, transparency, and growth within the association. “Our goal is to make CONMMEP the envy of other maritime associations within the next 12 months,” he declared, emphasizing plans to seek strategic partnerships and development opportunities for members.
