Aroyewun Inspects Igbe-Laara, Baiyeku Projects, Orders Urgent Drainage Fix Ahead of Rainy Season

The Executive Chairman of Igbogbo/Baiyeku Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Omo’ba Hammed Olalekan Aroyewun (HOA), has conducted an extensive inspection of ongoing and proposed infrastructure projects across Igbe-Laara and Baiyeku communities, directing urgent drainage and road interventions to mitigate flooding risks ahead of the rainy season.

During the tour on Wednesday, the council boss led officials of Hitech Construction Company on an on-site assessment of the Igbe-Laara road network following complaints from residents over deteriorating conditions and flood concerns.

The visit also enabled a joint evaluation of a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) proposal earlier submitted by the LCDA, particularly focusing on comprehensive drainage solutions for the area.

Aroyewun explained that the inspection was part of proactive measures by his administration to prevent flooding and improve vehicular movement within the axis.

“We are taking necessary steps within our capacity to provide palliative interventions before the rains intensify,” he assured residents.

Palliative Work Begins on Baiyeku Road

The Chairman and his delegation proceeded to Baiyeku Road, where he engaged members of the Community Development Association (CDA) over similar infrastructural challenges.

He confirmed that the council had commenced steps to implement palliative measures on the main road to enhance accessibility and reduce transportation difficulties faced by commuters.

According to him, the intervention covers drainage improvements and broader efforts to improve overall road usability within the community.

Residents Urged to Support Drainage Maintenance

Addressing residents during the tour, Aroyewun called on property owners to clear grasses, sand and debris from their frontages to prevent drainage blockage.

He also warned against indiscriminate waste disposal along roadsides, particularly during rainfall, noting that such practices worsen flooding and accelerate road damage.

The Chairman stressed that sustainable development requires collaboration between government and residents, urging continued cooperation and civic responsibility.

He further assured stakeholders that his office remains open to receiving feedback and constructive suggestions from the public.

Upgrade at Baiyeku Primary Health Centre

As part of the inspection, Aroyewun visited the Baiyeku Primary Health Centre, where flooring rehabilitation works are ongoing.

He noted that the upgrade is aimed at improving hygiene standards and creating a more conducive environment for patients and healthcare workers, reiterating his administration’s commitment to strengthening primary healthcare delivery in the LCDA.

Oliwo Amoju Road Reconstruction Nears Completion

The tour concluded at the Oliwo Amoju Road reconstruction site, which has reached the interlocking stage.

The project, being executed in collaboration with Lagos State Public Works and the contractor handling the assignment, will feature solar-powered streetlights upon completion to enhance security and nighttime visibility.

Expressing satisfaction with the pace and quality of work, Aroyewun reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to completing ongoing projects promptly and delivering sustainable infrastructure that improves living standards across Igbogbo/Baiyeku LCDA.
