BIGI, Fearless Turn Soundcity OnTour Into Campus Movement, Five Stops Remaining

LAGOS — The ongoing Soundcity OnTour campus activation powered by BIGI and Fearless Energy Drink has evolved into a major student-focused entertainment movement, combining live music, talent discovery, creativity and opportunities across Nigerian tertiary institutions.

The tour, organised in partnership with Soundcity OnTour, has so far visited 15 campuses, with five more institutions scheduled before the programme concludes in Abuja in October.

Among the institutions that have hosted the activation are Pan-Atlantic University, Olabisi Onabanjo University, Yaba College of Technology, University of Lagos, University of Uyo, University of Calabar, Obafemi Awolowo University, University of Port Harcourt, Niger Delta University and Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria.

Each stop has featured a combination of performances by established artistes, emerging talent showcases, entertainment activities and brand experiences, generating significant interest among students and institutions yet to host the tour.

At the University of Lagos, more than 5,000 students reportedly turned out despite heavy rainfall to watch performances by Qing Madi, Falz, Joeboy, Wande Coal and Mr P of P-Square.

The Lagos activation also provided a platform for more than 25 emerging artistes to showcase their abilities before a live audience.

According to Biola Arionsola, Brand Manager at BIGI, the response from students underscored the strong connection between the brands and Nigeria's youth population.

“The event truly set the bar. The turnout and energy of the students were outstanding, even with the weather conditions,” she said.

Beyond entertainment, the tour is also providing opportunities for aspiring musicians through the BIGI Music initiative of Rite Foods Limited, makers of BIGI Carbonated Soft Drinks and Fearless Energy Drink.

The initiative gives emerging artistes opportunities to perform before live audiences, compete for cash prizes and potentially advance towards the national stage.

At Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, Olaniyi Oluwakemi Abisola, popularly known as Abisola, emerged winner of the BIGI Music competition, while Moses Yakubu Ibrahim, known as Bhig Moe, and Ibrahim Yakubu Binkalim, popularly known as Ibrahim Binkaly, finished as first and second runners-up respectively.

The three artistes shared a N1 million cash prize.

The initiative also offers a pathway beyond the campus competition, with standout performers able to progress towards the national stage, where eventual winners are expected to benefit from studio production, A&R mentorship led by Bankulli, Soundcity Radio exposure and professionally produced music videos.

The tour has featured performances from a wide range of Nigerian artistes, including Teni, Falz, Iyanya, Qing Madi, DJ Spinall, Nasboi, Kunmie, Shoday, Guchhi, Priesst, Shine and TTW.

For Rite Foods, the initiative provides an avenue to engage young Nigerians through entertainment and youth culture while supporting emerging creative talent.

With five campuses still on the itinerary, anticipation is building among students and institutions outside those already visited, with calls growing for the activation to reach more campuses.

The Soundcity OnTour campus movement is expected to continue bringing music, entertainment, talent opportunities and brand experiences to Nigerian students ahead of its October finale in Abuja.

The question now is: which campus will be next?
