 Dangote Refinery Retains Position as Europe’s Largest Jet Fuel Supplier, Outpaces US Again

 Dangote Petroleum Refinery & Petrochemicals has retained its position as Europe's largest supplier of jet fuel for the second consecutive month, surpassing the United States and accounting for about 20 per cent of the continent's total jet fuel imports in July, according to the latest European import data compiled by global commodities intelligence firm Kpler.

Dangote Petroleum Refinery & Petrochemicals has further strengthened its presence in the global energy market after emerging as Europe's largest jet fuel supplier for the second consecutive month, reinforcing Nigeria's growing role in international refined petroleum trade.

According to European import data released by global commodities intelligence firm Kpler, the 700,000-barrels-per-day refinery exported more than 400,000 tonnes of jet fuel to Europe in July, representing approximately one-fifth of the continent's total jet fuel imports for the month.

The July performance follows a record export of 466,000 tonnes in June, when the Nigerian refinery overtook the United States as Europe's leading external supplier of aviation fuel.

Europe imported about 2.06 million tonnes of jet fuel in July, with Dangote Refinery accounting for the single largest share of imports, ahead of traditional suppliers from the United States and the Middle East.

Industry analysts say the refinery is reshaping established fuel trade routes across the Atlantic Basin by providing European buyers with a competitive alternative to long-standing suppliers. They attribute the refinery's growing influence to its strategic location on Nigeria's Atlantic coast, large production capacity, modern technology and efficient export infrastructure.

The refinery's export growth has been driven by rising production levels. Jet fuel loadings at its Lekki export terminal reached a record 550,000 tonnes in June, while crude oil deliveries to the facility climbed to an all-time high of 660,000 barrels per day, enabling increased output of refined petroleum products for international markets.

The latest achievement comes amid changing global energy supply patterns. Although Europe continued to receive limited jet fuel shipments from Kuwait, the United Arab Emirates and Oman in July, disruptions around the Strait of Hormuz and evolving geopolitical developments have prompted many buyers to diversify their sources of supply.

Against this backdrop, Dangote Refinery has emerged as a dependable and competitive supplier, further positioning Nigeria as a key player in the global market for refined petroleum products.

Commenting on the refinery's growing export footprint, the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of Dangote Petroleum Refinery & Petrochemicals, David Bird, said the company had continued to expand exports of jet fuel, diesel, gasoline and other refined petroleum products to markets across Europe, Africa and other regions.

According to him, the refinery's sustained export performance is helping to strengthen Nigeria's position as a net exporter of high-value refined petroleum products while enhancing the country's standing in the global energy market.
