Osun 2026: Progressives Group Congratulates Governor-Elect, Commends INEC, Voters

The Progressives Group has congratulated the Governor-elect of Osun State following the governorship election held across the state’s 30 local government areas, describing the exercise as a reflection of the people’s political consciousness and democratic maturity.

In a statement signed by its National Secretary, Comrade Shola Omolola, the group commended Osun voters for turning out in large numbers to exercise their civic rights peacefully and orderly.

The group particularly praised the participation of elderly voters, saying their involvement demonstrated the growing political awareness and commitment to democracy among residents of the state.

The Progressives Group also commended the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for the deployment of electoral officials and materials to most polling units, noting that accreditation and voting commenced simultaneously with minimal challenges in many locations.

It said the deployment of security agencies, alongside the presence of operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to deter vote-buying, contributed to strengthening the credibility of the electoral process.

According to the group, the active participation of observers, party agents and other stakeholders during the voting and collation processes further enhanced transparency.

“Having monitored the collation process, The Progressives Group congratulates the Governor-Elect on his re-election,” the statement said.

The group urged the Governor-elect to regard the renewed mandate as a responsibility to deepen good governance, deliver greater dividends of democracy and accommodate the interests of all stakeholders in the state.

It also appealed to other contestants in the election to accept the outcome in good faith and work collectively for the development of Osun State.

“Election is a process, and governance is for all,” the group said, while appreciating the security agencies for maintaining peace and order throughout the exercise.

The Progressives Group concluded its statement with the declaration: “Osun has spoken. Democracy has won.”
