 Aroyewun Begins Renovation of Elepe Primary Health Centre to Boost Grassroots Healthcare

IGBOGBO, LAGOS — The Executive Chairman of Igbogbo/Baiyeku Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Hammed Olalekan Aroyewun, has commenced the renovation of the Environmental Building and flooring of the Elepe Primary Health Centre (PHC), as part of efforts to strengthen primary healthcare delivery and improve access to quality medical services for residents.

The project, currently being executed by Smart Construct Solution Nig. Ltd. under the supervision of the council's Works and Infrastructure Department, aligns with the administration's GLORY Agenda, particularly the Roads and Infrastructure pillar aimed at rehabilitating critical public facilities across the council area.

According to the council, the intervention underscores its commitment to enhancing healthcare infrastructure and ensuring that residents receive medical services in safe, functional, and dignified environments.

Speaking on the project, Chairman Aroyewun described the renovation as a strategic investment in the health and welfare of residents, stressing that quality healthcare remains a fundamental component of sustainable development.

"When we talk about development, we must begin with the basics, and nothing is more basic than health. A community that cannot access quality healthcare in a dignified environment is a community that has been failed by its leaders. This renovation is not just about bricks and floors; it is about restoring hope, restoring dignity, and restoring confidence in public health institutions," he said.

The council noted that Primary Health Centres serve as the first point of healthcare contact for many residents, particularly pregnant women, nursing mothers, children, senior citizens, and low-income households, making investments in the sector critical to improving overall health outcomes.

The Supervisor for Health, Patricia Okosodo, described the project as timely and necessary, noting that the quality of public health facilities often reflects a government's commitment to the wellbeing of its citizens.

Also commenting on the project, the Medical Officer of Health, Akande G.O., said the upgrade would improve hygiene standards, enhance safety, and provide a more conducive environment for both healthcare workers and patients, thereby strengthening service delivery.

Similarly, the Chief of Staff to the Executive Chairman, Wasiu Olowu, said the renovation forms part of a broader strategy to upgrade public infrastructure across communities within the LCDA.

He added that the administration remains committed to ensuring that no community is neglected and that public facilities are maintained to meet the needs of residents.

The Elepe Primary Health Centre serves residents of Elepe and adjoining communities. Upon completion, the renovated facility is expected to provide a cleaner, safer, and more comfortable environment for patients while improving the efficiency of healthcare delivery.

The commencement of the project further highlights the Aroyewun administration's drive to strengthen public institutions and deliver sustainable infrastructure development across Igbogbo/Baiyeku LCDA, with healthcare remaining a key priority of the council's governance agenda.
