MasterChef Nigeria: Fads Wins White Apron Challenge, Clinches Dish of the Day Honour
LAGOS – Contestant Fads emerged the star of the latest episode of MasterChef Nigeria, winning the coveted Dish of the Day title after impressing judges with her Afro-Italian pizza and pasta creations during the competition's White Apron Day challenge.
Although no contestant faced elimination during the episode, the pressure remained intense as the home cooks were tasked with preparing two Afro-Italian dishes, blending classic Italian cuisine with bold Nigerian flavours within 90 minutes.
The challenge required contestants to demonstrate creativity, technical skill and culinary finesse by reinventing Italian favourites using Nigerian ingredients while maintaining restaurant-quality presentation.
The day's top prize, an Ooni pizza oven, was awarded to the contestant with the best overall performance.
Pizza became the centrepiece of the challenge, with judges highlighting the importance of mastering dough preparation. Chef Stone advocated for a thick, hearty pizza base, while Chef Eros favoured a thin, crispy crust, leaving contestants to find the perfect balance to impress the panel.
The pasta challenge proved equally demanding, with judges assessing refinement, flavour balance, technique and presentation.
The competition also featured dramatic moments as Isabella encountered a flare-up at the pizza oven, while Favy battled a separate kitchen fire at her workstation. Chef Stone quickly intervened to prevent both incidents from escalating.
Chef Eros also delivered some of the day's toughest critiques, removing his trademark glasses—a gesture contestants recognise as a sign of disappointment—while tasting dishes prepared by David and Isabella.
Favy also suffered a setback after serving undercooked mussels in her pasta, an error that could have proved costly in an elimination round. However, the judges commended the overall flavour profile of her dish despite the mistake.
Fads ultimately stood out with what the judges described as restaurant-ready dishes that were "delicious, classy, elegant and beautiful." Her performance earned enthusiastic praise from the judges, including a rare round of applause from Chef Eros, who affectionately dubbed her "Fabulous Fads."
With the victory, Fads claimed the Dish of the Day honour, won the Ooni pizza oven and secured valuable momentum heading into the next stage of the competition.
The contest now enters a more critical phase as the remaining four contestants will compete wearing black aprons, signalling the return of elimination. One contestant will leave the competition next week as the race for the Top 3 intensifies.
The eventual winner of MasterChef Nigeria will receive the ₦73 million grand prize and the coveted MasterChef Nigeria title.
