MILO Basketball Championship: Davidhall International College, Ado Grammar School Clinch Western Conference Titles, Qualify for National Finals
IBADAN, Nigeria – Davidhall International College, Lagos State, and Ado Grammar School, Ekiti State, have emerged champions of the Western Conference of the 26th MILO Basketball Championship, securing the final slots for the championship's National Finals scheduled for July 2, 2026, at the National Stadium, Surulere, Lagos.
The Western Conference, which marked the conclusion of the regional phase of the competition, saw schools from across the region compete for the last available tickets to the national stage.
In the girls' category, Ado Grammar School, Ekiti State, defeated Lanreleke Academy of Osun State 53-49 in a closely contested final. The victory represents a historic achievement for the school, as it qualified for the National Finals for the first time.
The boys' final produced a thrilling encounter as Davidhall International College, Lagos State, edged God's Blessings Comprehensive College, Oyo State, 82-81 to claim the conference title and secure a place in the championship finale.
The 26th edition of the MILO Basketball Championship has attracted applications from more than 13,000 schools across Nigeria, underscoring the growing popularity and impact of the competition as a platform for youth development through sports.
Speaking at the event, Category Manager for MILO at Nestlé Nigeria�, Mr. Gilbert Tweneboah-Koduah, reaffirmed the brand's commitment to nurturing young talents through sports.
According to him, the championship continues to provide students with opportunities to develop critical life skills such as discipline, resilience, teamwork and determination.
"At MILO, we believe that sport is one of the most powerful tools for shaping character and building future leaders. Through the Basketball Championship, we continue to provide young people with opportunities to develop discipline, resilience, teamwork and determination, qualities that will serve them well beyond the court," he said.
Individual excellence was also recognized during the conference. In the girls' category, Miracle Akinola of Ado Grammar School was named the Most Valuable Player (MVP) after scoring 22 points to help her team secure victory.
In the boys' category, Emmanuel Saleh of Davidhall International College earned MVP honours, contributing 19 points and playing a decisive role in his team's triumph.
The championship attracted officials and stakeholders from the Oyo State Ministry of Education, the Nigeria School Sport Federation (NSSF), the National Council on School Sport (NCSS), and FIBA.
The completion of the Western Conference brings to a close the regional stage of the competition. Earlier conferences had produced other regional champions, including Government Secondary School, Zing, Taraba State, and Family Support Programme Secondary School, Katsina State, from the Savannah Conference; Government Secondary School, Gboko, Benue State, and Father O'Connell Science College, Niger State, from the Central Conference; and St. Jude Girls Secondary School, Bayelsa State, alongside King Amakree Academy, Rivers State, from the Atlantic Conference.
With all regional champions now confirmed, attention shifts to the National Finals in Lagos, where the best school basketball teams from across Nigeria will compete for national honours in the 26th edition of the MILO Basketball Championship.
