LAGOS — Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has praised the Nigeria Police Force for what he described as a sustained and coordinated crackdown on criminal activities under Operation "Kosaye," following the arrest of 88 suspects, the rescue of five kidnapped victims, and the recovery of a cache of arms and ammunition across Lagos and Ogun states.

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has commended the Nigeria Police Force and other security agencies for the ongoing security operation tagged Operation "Kosaye," describing it as a significant step in the fight against kidnapping, armed robbery, and other violent crimes in Lagos and neighbouring Ogun State.

The governor's commendation followed the operation's reported successes, which include the arrest of 88 suspects, the rescue of five kidnapped victims, the recovery of a cache of arms and ammunition, and the death of four suspected criminals during a gun battle with security operatives.

Speaking on the development, Sanwo-Olu reaffirmed his administration's commitment to strengthening collaboration with security agencies to ensure the safety of lives and property across Lagos State.

"We will continue to work with the police and other security agencies to ensure that our state is safe and secure for residents and visitors," the governor said.

He also applauded the efforts of the police, stating that the operation demonstrated effective cooperation between Lagos and Ogun states.

"We appreciate the huge efforts of the police, as directed by the Inspector-General of Police, Tunji Disu, in arresting the suspects and the cooperation of our neighbours, Ogun State. This is the way it should be," he added.

Operation "Kosaye," which means "no space for criminals," is a coordinated security operation involving the Lagos and Ogun State Police Commands aimed at dismantling kidnapping syndicates, armed robbery gangs, and other violent criminal networks operating within the Southwest.

As part of the operation, security operatives have intensified surveillance and combing of forest areas along the J3/J4 axis of Ogbere in Ogun State, a corridor believed to have been used by criminal elements.

The police said the operation remains intelligence-driven and that sustained security efforts would continue to deny criminals safe havens within the two states.

Authorities have also maintained a visible security presence across Lagos and Ogun, with police commands parading arrested suspects and displaying recovered weapons as part of efforts to reassure residents and deter criminal activities.

Governor Sanwo-Olu further urged residents to support security agencies by providing timely and credible information on criminal hideouts and suspicious activities.

He assured that the Lagos State Government would continue to support law enforcement agencies through the Lagos State Security Trust Fund (LSSTF) to enhance operational capacity and improve public safety.
