LASTMA Rescues Three Victims as Brake-Failed Truck Triggers Multi-Vehicle Crash on LASU–Isheri Road

The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has rescued three injured victims and restored traffic flow after a multiple-vehicle collision caused by a suspected brake failure involving a MACK flatbed truck along the LASU–Isheri Road corridor at Iyana School, inward Igando.

According to LASTMA, preliminary investigations revealed that the crash occurred when a MACK flatbed truck reportedly suffered a brake failure, causing the driver to lose control before crashing into a Toyota Sienna and two commercial tricycles.

The agency said its officers, who were on routine traffic patrol in the area, responded immediately by activating emergency rescue operations. The prompt intervention led to the successful rescue of the trapped occupants, prevented further accidents, and helped restore the free flow of traffic along the busy corridor.

LASTMA personnel worked alongside officers from the Iba Police Division to evacuate the damaged vehicles and clear the accident scene, preventing prolonged traffic congestion and reducing the risk of secondary crashes.

Three people—one man and two women—sustained varying degrees of fracture injuries in the collision. They were rescued from the wreckage by emergency responders and taken to El-Shaddai Hospital, where they are receiving treatment.

The vehicles involved in the crash included a MACK flatbed truck, a Toyota vehicle with registration number FGC 80 XE, and a TVS commercial tricycle with registration number LSR 604 QP.

Throughout the rescue operation, LASTMA officers managed traffic around the accident scene, ensuring the safety of other road users while facilitating the complete restoration of normal vehicular movement.

Commending the professionalism and swift response of the agency's personnel, LASTMA General Manager, Mr. Olalekan Bakare-Oki, urged motorists, particularly operators of articulated and heavy-duty vehicles, to carry out comprehensive mechanical inspections before embarking on journeys.

He stressed that special attention should be given to the condition of braking systems, noting that routine preventive maintenance of critical vehicle components is essential to reducing avoidable road crashes and improving road safety across Lagos State.
