 NUT Raises Alarm Over Abduction of Oyo Primary School Headmaster, Demands Immediate Rescue

The Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), Oyo State Wing, has expressed deep concern over the abduction of a primary school headmaster in Itesiwaju Local Government Area, calling on security agencies and the Oyo State Government to ensure his immediate rescue.

The Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), Oyo State Wing, has raised the alarm over the abduction of Mr. M.K. Owoade, the Headmaster of Nomadic Basic School, Ogodu, Igbojaye, in Itesiwaju Local Government Area of Oyo State.

In a statement jointly signed by the State Chairman of the union, Comrade Hassan Ajibola Fatai, and the State Secretary, Comrade Salami Olukayode, the union disclosed that the headmaster was reportedly kidnapped by unidentified persons while working on his farmland at about 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 11, 2026.

According to the statement, the incident was brought to the attention of the state leadership through an urgent notification issued by the NUT Itesiwaju Local Government Branch to its members.

Describing the abduction as disturbing, the union said the incident underscores the growing security challenges confronting teachers and other education workers, particularly those serving in rural communities.

The NUT called on the Oyo State Government, security agencies and other relevant authorities to intensify efforts to secure the immediate and safe release of the abducted headmaster while strengthening security measures to protect teachers and other citizens.

The union also expressed solidarity with the family, colleagues and pupils of Mr. Owoade, assuring them of its support during the difficult period.

While urging members to remain vigilant, the union prayed for the victim's safe return and called for renewed efforts to tackle insecurity across the state and the country.
