Rite Foods Sensitises Journalists on Sustainability Report, Highlights Progress in Water, Energy, Waste Management, Social Investment
Rite Foods Limited has reaffirmed its commitment to sustainable business practices with the presentation of its Sustainability Report to journalists, showcasing significant achievements in environmental stewardship, social impact, and corporate governance while underscoring its alignment with global Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) standards.
At the media sensitisation session, the company explained that the Sustainability Report provides a transparent account of its environmental, social and governance performance, while reflecting its determination to create long-term value for stakeholders and the communities where it operates.
Speaking during the engagement, company representatives highlighted notable progress recorded across key sustainability pillars in 2025.
On environmental sustainability, Rite Foods disclosed that it achieved a 15 per cent reduction in water consumption, demonstrating improved water-use efficiency across its operations. The company also reported a 7 per cent improvement in energy-use efficiency, a milestone aimed at reducing operational costs and lowering its environmental footprint.
The company equally intensified efforts towards responsible waste management, revealing that over 42 tonnes of plastic waste were recovered from coastal communities, while 58.2 tonnes of plastic waste were recovered in total during 2025, reinforcing its commitment to a circular economy and environmental conservation.
On the social impact front, Rite Foods said it invested ₦581.92 million in various social intervention programmes in 2025, representing a 50 per cent increase compared to its 2024 expenditure.
Among the projects highlighted was the construction of an Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Centre in Ososa, Ogun State, to promote digital education and enhance learning opportunities for young people.
The company also outlined several community-focused initiatives, including women empowerment programmes, the provision of free water to essential workers, and support for the Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital, as part of its healthcare interventions.
Rite Foods further stated that it continued to invest in training and capacity building for its workforce while strengthening local economic development through employment opportunities.
According to the report, the company recorded a 4.1 per cent increase in employee recruitment from host communities in Odogbolu Local Government Area, creating more employment opportunities for residents.
It also noted that 34 employees volunteered in various community development initiatives, reflecting its commitment to employee volunteerism and social responsibility.
The company currently employs over 3,000 direct staff, while supporting an estimated 12,000 indirect jobs across its value chain through suppliers, distributors, logistics partners and other business associates.
On governance, Rite Foods stressed that it remains committed to maintaining high standards of corporate governance, supported by robust internal control systems and enterprise risk management frameworks designed to ensure accountability, transparency and sustainable business growth.
The company noted that sustainability is central to its business strategy and pledged to continue implementing initiatives that promote environmental protection, economic development and community wellbeing.
Journalists at the sensitisation programme commended the company for engaging the media on its sustainability journey, noting that increased awareness and transparency would help drive public understanding of corporate sustainability efforts in Nigeria.
