International Youth Day 2026: Waliu Abdul Urges Nigerian Youth to Support Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda
National Youth Leader of The Progressive Group, Waliu Abdul, has urged Nigerian youths to support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration and ensure the continuity of the Renewed Hope Agenda beyond 2027.
Abdul made the call in a message marking International Youth Day 2026, themed “Different Contexts, Common Aspirations.”
According to him, although Nigerian youths come from diverse ethnic, religious and socioeconomic backgrounds, they share common aspirations, including access to quality education, meaningful employment, equal opportunities, dignity and a sustainable future.
He said the theme was particularly relevant to Nigeria, stressing that the country’s diversity should not prevent young people from pursuing shared national aspirations.
“Aspirations without action remain mere dreams,” Abdul said, adding that the Tinubu administration had taken steps to translate the aspirations of young Nigerians into tangible opportunities.
He highlighted the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND), which he said had disbursed more than ₦282 billion in interest-free loans to over 1.5 million students across 288 tertiary institutions.
Abdul also cited the Nigerian Youth Academy (NiYA), which he said was targeting millions of young Nigerians through practical skills and digital empowerment programmes, alongside initiatives focused on entrepreneurship, agriculture, healthcare and the creative sector.
On the economy, the youth leader pointed to Nigeria’s reported GDP growth and rising foreign reserves as indications of improving economic conditions, arguing that a growing economy could create greater opportunities for young people.
He further highlighted ongoing road infrastructure projects, including the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway and Sokoto-Badagry Super Highway, describing them as strategic investments capable of strengthening connectivity, trade, tourism and national integration.
Abdul also commended the administration’s efforts toward conflict resolution, citing developments surrounding the Ogoni crisis, the resolution of the Malabu Oil dispute and dialogue initiatives aimed at addressing tensions in Plateau State.
He urged young Nigerians not to abandon what he described as ongoing reforms and opportunities under the present administration.
“Continuity is not just a political choice, it is an economic necessity. It is a social imperative. It is our collective future,” he said.
Abdul called on Nigerian youths to mobilise and participate actively in the country’s political and economic development, while expressing support for the continuation of the Renewed Hope Agenda beyond 2027.
He said young Nigerians should work toward building a prosperous, united and hopeful country, concluding with the message: “Build the Youth. Build the Nation. Secure the Future.”
