 Lagos Police Arrest Chinese National Over Alleged Attempted Sexual Assault of Male Employee

The Lagos State Police Command has arrested a Chinese national, identified as Bai Quang, over allegations of repeated sexual advances, sexual assault and an attempted rape of his male Nigerian employee.

The suspect was reportedly arrested following a petition by the complainant, Mr Charles Nwafor, who alleged that Quang repeatedly made unwanted sexual advances toward him despite his refusal.

According to a police source, the suspect allegedly assaulted Nwafor by pulling down his trousers and touching his private parts, among other acts, after the complainant repeatedly rejected his advances.

The source said Quang later allegedly lured Nwafor to a hotel under the guise of discussing a business transaction, where he allegedly attempted to force him into unwanted sexual acts.

The alleged attempt was reportedly unsuccessful, after which Nwafor lodged a complaint with the police.

The source further alleged that following the incident, the suspect threatened the complainant and terminated his employment after he refused to submit to the alleged demands.

Following the petition, the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Fatai Tijani, directed that the case be transferred from the Hausa Police Station to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Yaba, for further investigation.

The investigation is being handled by the Diplomatic/Foreign Nationals Crimes Section of the SCID under the supervision of the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the department, Dayo Akinbisehin.

The police source said the Chinese Embassy was being notified of the suspect’s arrest and detention in accordance with diplomatic procedures applicable to foreign nationals.

He added that investigators were working to establish the circumstances surrounding the allegations and determine the appropriate legal action.

“The suspect is in safe custody while investigation is ongoing,” the source said.

The development comes amid the recent decentralisation of investigative activities at the Lagos State Criminal Investigation Department, Panti-Yaba, into specialised units and sections following the assumption of office of CP Fatai Tijani.

The police said the strategy was aimed at strengthening the command’s response to emerging crimes and improving the handling of cases involving foreign nationals through enhanced coordination with their respective diplomatic missions in Nigeria.

Quang remains in police custody as investigations continue, and the allegations have not yet been proven in court.
