 LSSTF Boosts Navy Operations with 50 Bulletproof Vests, Ballistic Helmets, 100 Raincoats

The Lagos State Security Trust Fund (LSSTF) has strengthened the operational capacity of the Nigerian Navy with the donation of 50 bulletproof vests, 50 ballistic helmets and 100 raincoats to the Nigerian Navy Ship (NNS) Beecroft in Apapa, Lagos.

The intervention, according to the Trust Fund, is part of its ongoing efforts to identify operational gaps within security agencies and provide targeted support to improve personnel protection, operational readiness and the overall security of Lagos State.

The presentation was made at the headquarters of NNS Beecroft, where the Executive Secretary/Chief Executive Officer of the LSSTF, Dr. Ayodele Ogunsan, said the organisation would continue to assess the needs of security formations across the state and provide necessary interventions.

Ogunsan explained that regular visits to security agencies were part of the Trust Fund’s established approach to identifying areas requiring support.

“It is a normal tradition as the Executive Secretary of the Lagos State Security Trust Fund to constantly visit all the security agencies in the state to see how they are doing, to ensure that we boost the morale of the officers and encourage the commanders. We do on-site inspections to see areas of intervention,” he said.

He said the latest assessment at NNS Beecroft led to the provision of protective equipment and raincoats, adding that additional interventions were being planned.

“Today we have come here to NNS Beecroft to donate 50 units of ballistic helmets, 50 units of bulletproof vests. We’ve also donated 100 units of raincoats because of the season we are in now. And there are other things that we have discussed behind closed doors that we are going to address very shortly,” Ogunsan said.

According to him, the interventions were consistent with the core mandate of the LSSTF to bridge identified operational gaps among recognised security agencies operating in Lagos.

“That is our core mandate, that is our responsibility. We are established as an interventionist agency to address and fill all the gaps that we feel that are there,” he added.

Ogunsan said the ultimate objective of the interventions was to enhance the effectiveness of security agencies and improve the protection of residents, particularly as the state approaches a sensitive election period.

“To whom much is given, much is expected. All these interventions across all security agencies is definitely to expect more from them. And the main important thing is security, safety of lives and property, especially now that we are approaching a very sensitive period, the elections,” he said.

Navy Commander Commends LSSTF

Receiving the equipment, the Commander of NNS Beecroft, Commodore Adams A. Aliu, expressed appreciation to the Lagos State Government and the LSSTF for the intervention.

Aliu said the equipment would enhance the Navy’s capacity to carry out its internal security responsibilities, particularly in securing Lagos waterways and adjoining land areas.

He also highlighted the constitutional responsibility of the Armed Forces to provide Military Aid to Civil Authority and Military Aid to Civil Power, noting that the protective equipment would contribute to ongoing internal security operations.

Ogunsan Visits Western Naval Command

As part of the engagement, Ogunsan, accompanied by Commodore Aliu, also paid a courtesy visit to the Flag Officer Commanding, Western Naval Command, Apapa, Rear Admiral Abdullahi Abubakar Mustapha, mni.

The visit was aimed at strengthening collaboration between the LSSTF and the Nigerian Navy, particularly in supporting the military’s role in assisting civil authorities in maintaining security and protecting lives and property.

The latest intervention underscores the LSSTF’s continued focus on strengthening security agencies through equipment, mobility, personnel protection and other forms of operational support.

The Trust Fund said such interventions are intended to ensure that security personnel operating across Lagos are better equipped and prepared to respond to emerging security challenges.
