 First Lady Rewards Qur’anic Competition Winner Maryam Dan’Azumi With N20m

First Lady of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has rewarded 19-year-old Maryam Ibrahim Dan’Azumi, winner of the women’s category of the 46th King Abdulaziz International Qur’anic Recitation Competition in Saudi Arabia, with N20 million.

Senator Tinubu presented the cash reward to Maryam when she received the young Qur’anic recitation champion at the State House, Abuja, on Tuesday.

The First Lady, who described Maryam’s achievement as a source of pride to Nigeria, Gombe State and her family, also pledged to support her pursuit of a master’s degree.

“You have brought joy to us, showing Nigeria to the world again, about her worth and the good that can come from her,” Senator Tinubu said.

She commended Maryam’s father for providing her with sound upbringing and supporting her development, noting that his efforts had contributed to the young woman’s remarkable achievement.

“You are a pride to the girl child. You are showing your generation the way which to go and that is hard work, pursued with divine wisdom and God has crowned your efforts,” the First Lady said.

Senator Tinubu reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to education, describing it as a priority of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration.

She also urged Maryam to maintain her dedication to education and embrace mentorship as she progresses in her academic pursuits.

The Gombe State Governor, Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, who accompanied Maryam to the State House alongside his wife, Dr Asma’u Inuwa Yahaya, her father and other state government officials, said the teenager had consistently excelled in Qur’anic recitation competitions.

According to the governor, Maryam progressed from competitions at the local government level to the state and national levels before representing Nigeria at the international competition in Saudi Arabia.

Governor Yahaya described her victory as a significant achievement and a source of pride for both Gombe State and Nigeria.

Responding, Maryam expressed appreciation to the First Lady for the reception and recognition.

She said her participation in the Saudi Arabian competition provided her with an opportunity to interact with participants from different parts of the world.

Maryam also expressed hope that her achievement would inspire other young Nigerians to work harder, pursue excellence and contribute positively to the country.

The 46th King Abdulaziz International Qur’anic Competition attracted participants from 133 countries, with Maryam emerging as the winner in the women’s category.
