 LASWA Honours Two Retirees After 35 Years of Service to Lagos Waterways

The Lagos State Waterways Authority (LASWA) has honoured two of its distinguished professionals, Prince Gbadamosi Hakeem and Captain Shakirudeen Lamidi, following their retirement after 35 years of meritorious service in the Lagos State Civil Service.

The Authority described the retirees as exceptional professionals whose careers and contributions have played significant roles in the development, safety and efficiency of water transportation in Lagos State.

Prince Gbadamosi Hakeem, who served as a Marine Operations Supervisor, was particularly recognised for his extensive contributions to fleet management and marine operations.

Affectionately known as “Number 1” by members of his team, Hakeem was responsible for overseeing the maintenance, deployment and operational readiness of LASWA’s fleet of boats.

He also supervised boat captains and deckhands operating across the state’s waterways, contributing to improved operational standards and safety compliance.

LASWA said his professionalism, commitment to excellence and mentorship helped to train and develop a new generation of boat captains and other marine personnel who continue to contribute to the sector.

Hakeem began his public service career with the former Lagos State Ferry Corporation before joining LASWA, bringing decades of experience and institutional knowledge to the Authority.

Similarly, Captain Shakirudeen Lamidi was celebrated for his decades of service and extensive knowledge of Lagos waterways.

A seasoned mariner and senior boat captain, Lamidi began his career with the Lagos State Ferry Corporation before joining LASWA in 2008.

During his years of service, he distinguished himself through his navigational expertise, professionalism and commitment to waterways safety.

The Authority described him as a calm and respected leader whose deep knowledge of Lagos waterways earned him the confidence of colleagues, passengers and other stakeholders.

Beyond his operational responsibilities, Lamidi also mentored younger captains and helped preserve and transfer valuable maritime knowledge and experience to the next generation of water transport professionals.

Legacy of Service

LASWA said the retirement of the two professionals marks the end of remarkable careers dedicated to the growth and development of water transportation in Lagos State.

The Authority commended Hakeem and Lamidi for their discipline, dedication and selfless service, noting that their contributions helped shape LASWA and strengthen the state’s waterways transportation sector.

LASWA expressed appreciation to both retirees for their years of outstanding service and wished them good health, happiness and fulfilment as they begin a new chapter of their lives.
