 SWAT Operatives Recover AK-47, Live Ammunition, Arrest Suspect in Adamawa

The Nigeria Police Force has arrested a 40-year-old man and recovered an AK-47 rifle and three rounds of live ammunition in Adamawa State, following an intelligence-led operation targeting an alleged criminal network operating across Adamawa and Taraba states.

The operation was conducted by operatives of the Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) Unit of the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID), Abuja.

According to a statement by the FCID Police Public Relations Officer, SP Funmi Eguavoje, the investigation followed credible intelligence received on March 5, 2026, concerning the alleged possession of AK-47 rifles and other dangerous weapons by suspected members of the network.

The statement said the operatives subsequently commenced discreet investigations and intelligence-led operations.

It added that on August 25, 2026, the team arrested Alhaji Gayi Ibrahim Yahaya, a resident of Toungo Local Government Area of Adamawa State.

During the operation, the police recovered one AK-47 rifle with breech number S-47275 and three rounds of live ammunition.

The suspect is currently assisting the police with useful information as investigations continue into the circumstances surrounding the possession of the firearm and ammunition, as well as the activities of other persons allegedly linked to the criminal network.

The Force reiterated its commitment to dismantling criminal networks, recovering illegal arms and ammunition, and ensuring the safety and security of Nigerians.

It also urged members of the public to continue providing credible and timely information to the police, noting that such information remains vital to the success of intelligence-led policing and the fight against violent crime.

The police said further developments would be communicated to the public as the investigation progresses.
