COURT GRANTS ONAMADE’S PRAYER, ADJOURN SITTING TILL JULY
The sitting judge at the Federal High Court II, Ikoyi, Lagos, Honourable Justice F.O. Faji, has granted the application of Honourable Oluwatosin Onamade for the adjournment of ongoing court proceeding against him by the Inspector General of Police.
Onamade’s wish for adjournment was honoured by the court following his counsel’s inability to appear at the court proceeding owing to health issues.
Onamade is facing legal suit from the Inspector General of Police, Mr. Usman Alkali Baba, for pushing offensive publications online against a former chairman of Ijede LCDA, Hon. Fatiu Salisu over the murder of one Mr. Tony Ifeanyi Godfrey.
Onamade pleaded not guilty on the charges on pushing offensive allegations online against the former chairman of Ijede LCDA, Fatiu Jimoh Salisu
Citing a letter posted by the defendant’s counsel, the presiding judge said it would be appropriate to adjourn hearing till a later date.
Prosecuting counsel, Barrister Victor Okoye, in efforts to make the judge overlook the letter, citing previous delays due to the defendant’s absences in court, was immediately turned down by Justice Faji who asked if he (Okoye) had read the defendant’s counsel’s letter at all.
“Have you read the letter at all? Justice Faji queried!
The sitting judge therefore declared that since the defendant’s lawyer is “sick” at the moment, he will have to adjourn to a later date.
The matter was therefore adjourned till 11th of July, 2022.
Presiding judge however imposed a mild condition on the defendant Onamade to report every Monday of the week to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) Panti pending the next court sitting in July.
