Ondo State House of Assembly Intervens in Ilaje Local Government Crisis

Sequel to the crisis between the Chairman Ilaje Local Government of Ondo state and his councilors, the Ondo State House of assembly resolutions on the matter stands:


1. By virtue of Section 33 of the Ondo State Local Government (Amendment) Law, 2007, the House of Assembly is empowered to investigate the conduct of affairs of any officer, authority or person in the employment of any Local Government within the State. 

2. That Section 34(2) of the Law categorical states that the House of Assembly is not precluded from imposing sanctions as considered necessary to restore accountability, transparency and good governance in any Local Government in the State.

3. The House of Assembly commend the Councilors for upholding Democracy at their various Local Government. Therefore, seek for maximum cooperation between their Legislative and Executive Arm of Government.

4. Flowing from the above, the House of Assembly note that the action taken on the 25th of January,2023 by the Councilors in Ilaje Local Government did not follow due process and is hereby declared null and void. 

5. That subsequent dispute between the Chairman and Councilors of any of the 18 Local Governments should be forwarded to the House of Assembly for necessary action/resolution.

6. That the House will not hesitate to impose sanction(s) considered necessary to restore peace and good governance in Ilaje and any other Local Government in Ondo State if the need arises. 

7. Mr. Clerk is hereby directed to act accordingly and notify, communicate to all concern the House resolution with immediate effect.

The leader of the house of Ilaje Local government agrees with the resolutions of the house of assembly as all issues will be settled amicably.
