Olu of Ibasa debunks allegations levelled against him by Ndigbo

It was reported in some news platform that some Ndigbo were attacked at Ibasa/ Ijegun under Oriade Local government area during the last Saturday's election. 

In an interview with the Paramount ruler of the town, Oba Afeez Oriyomi Shittu Adeyemi 1, the Olu of Ibasa kingdom, the king alleged that one Mr. Chinedu in his area,who was parading himself as the Eze Ndigbo of Ibasa was at his palace during the election, it was alleged that Mr. Chinedu went to polling unit 13 with over 40 people, dressed in Igbo regalia, he was cautioned by the people to stop moving around with so many people. Of which Mr. Chinedu is not voting at Ibasa, his polling unit is at Ibeshe, they don't see any reason why the man should come to Ibasa claiming he came to monitor election. This led to a heated argument between the people and the Igbos. 

The king notes that, he was around the town monitoring the election when he got a distress call from one of his chiefs, who informed him of the development.

In his words, he said " I had to rush back to the palace to curtail the situation, Mr. Chinedu brought out horn during the scuffle to attack some of the voters, 4 people were injured and they were taking to nearby hospital for first aid treatment". We didn't stop anyone from voting during election, we have different tribes within and outside Ibasa, we do make peace with everyone living among us." We are not tribalistic, we are friendly and accommodating people." "I don't want my image and my name to be tarnished by this people, because I've not and I will never hurt anyone."

One of the witness of the incident, the wife to  Olu of Ibasa, Olori Remilekun Shittu said she was called upon to attend to the situation at the palace which she did, she met Mr. Chinedu in their sitting room when she got back and one of her brother's in the community narrated what transpired. She notes that, the king insisted the issue will be attended to by the police. Mr Chinedu was later handed over to the police from Ibeshe when they came to the palace.

She said nobody came to the Kabiesi to apologise on Mr. Chinedu's behalf, that they just went to media to report the issue. 

Mr. Mudashiru who was also at the polling unit said, Ibasa is not having issues with anyone, he said Mr. Chinedu said he wanted to take the ballot box, that they can't allow a stranger to disrupt and destroy what they have laboured for. 

The matter has since been reported and attended to by the police. 

Olu of Ibasa called on the governor for Lagos State Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu to come to their  aide and also called on the chairman of the local government Hon. Ramota to also attend to the issue and find lasting solution to the problem.
