Group of Opposition Presidential Candidates Meets APC Chairman, Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje, seeks for inclusion in President Tinubu's government as they applaud his key economic policies.
On Thursday, 31 August 2023, Presidential Candidates of some opposition political parties in the 2023 general elections Led by Rev Ambassador Felix Johnson Osakwe, NATIONAL RESCUE MOVEMENT (NRM) PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE paid a courtesy visit to the National Chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress(APC), Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje to felicitate with him on his emergence as the National Chairman of the ruling party and also seek for INCLUSION in the President Bola Tinubu's government.
The group identified as The Forum of Concerned Presidential Candidates are members of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), National Rescue Movement (NRM), Action People's Party (APP), Action Democratic Party (ADP) amongst others. The group applauded the policies and developmental programs of the President and declared it's willingness to be a part of the nation building process under the Tinubu's administration.
They also disclosed their decision not to challenge the victory of President Tinubu at the Presidential election tribunal for the maintenance of peace and the development of the Nation and to also allow Mr. President focus on the enormous work at hand.
The CPC also opined that the opposition Presidential candidates who have prescribed solutions to the various challenges facing the nation through their respective manifestos will be a huge resource for Mr. President as he strives to appoint reputable Nigerians to key positions of authority.
The group also endorsed the Federal Government's VAT Direct Initiative (VDI) program aimed at addressing the challenge of multiple taxation in the country.
Felix Osakwe, spokesperson for the group presented the VDI brochure to the APC Chairman. Mr. Osakwe said the VDI is a wonderful initiative of Mr Mohammed M. Nami, the Executive Chairman Federal Inland Revenue Service, FIRS, and the Joint Tax Board, JTB, in collaboration with the Market Traders Association of Nigeria, MATAN, which aims to eliminate multiple taxation and capture revenue generation for the governments through the use of technology from the informal sectors.
According to Osakwe, the FIRS and the JTB, in collaboration with MATAN, have been working around the clock to perfect the takeoff of the initiative, which was described as a wonderful and innovative tax reform by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
The VDI is a new tax idea by the FIRS, partnering with the Market Traders Association of Nigeria (MATAN) to collect and remit Value Added Tax (VAT) from their members—especially those in the informal sector—using unified systems technology.
The APC Chairman was excited while receiving the VDI brochure as he commended the efforts of the candidates and the FIRS Chairman for their steadfast commitment to Nation building. He promised to lead the group personally to meet with Mr President for further integration and synergy.
