LASTMA, OTHER EMERGENCY RESPONDERS AVERTS ANOTHER GAS EXPLOSION AT LAWANSON, LAGOS
Operatives of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) and other emergency responders this evening averted what could have been another major gas explosion around Lawanson Bus-stop, opposite Total Filling Station, Surulere, Lagos
In a release statement issued by the Director, Public Affairs and Enlightenment Department of LASTMA Mr Adebayo Taofiq disclosed that an articulated vehicle (KJA 763 XY) laden with loaded LPG tank (20 tons) fell off from the chassis while on motion around Lawanson area of Surulere, Lagos.
Mr. Adebayo disclosed further that priliminary investigation revealed that the Petrocam Gas truck while on motion from Ojuelegba inward Lawanson suddenly developed chassis problem which hooked the articulated truck down immediately.
"Lastma personnel arrived at the scene at exact 7:40pm and immediately called other emergency responders particularly the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Services and Lastma Response Unit for their prompt interventions"
The Director confirmed that Police men from Itire Police Station provided security backup to Lastma personnel headed by Traffic Officer Adeyemo Olanrewaju and other emergency responders at the scene.
"In order to guide against any fire explosion around the falling gas tank, Lastma personnel cordoned off the entire area while vehicular movement were diverted to Aborishade inward Pako--Eleja to link Iyana Itire to continue their journey"
