Ibeju Lekki food subsidy program provides relief for residents during Ramadan, despite economic hardship
The Ibeju Lekki local government has implemented a food subsidy program, which offers residents access to affordable, nutritious food. The program is designed to help alleviate poverty and hunger in the area.

Since the implementation of the food subsidy program, residents have reported improved health and well-being. The program has also helped to increase food security in the area, reducing the number of people who are food insecure.

The second edition of the Ibeju-Lekki Community Market organized by the Hon Abdullahi Sesan Olowa led administration continued yesterday as the Jumbo subsidy afforded members of the general public the  opportunity make choices of various food items with a low price of 3,000 naira.

The various food items were, rice, garri, fish, Fresh Tomatoes, Fresh Pepper,  fresh cow meat, beans and egg
Recall that, the visionary Council Chairman of Ibeju Lekki Local Government,  Hon Abdullahi Sesan Olowa kicked off the maiden edition on 22nd February,  2024 and is optimistic that the subsidised prices of food, will cushion the effect of the current economic realities.
"The food subsidy program has been especially important during Ramadan, when food prices often increase. It has allowed us to celebrate the holy month with dignity and comfort. 

"This is done with the government allocation, the local government funded this process 100%. It will be done for 6 months and it will be stopped as things stabilizes."

 "We are committed to ensuring that our residents have access to affordable, nutritious food, especially during difficult times. This program is one way that we are fulfilling our duty to care for our people and build a stronger community, the chairman said.

The chairman hereby urge private sectors to also support the local government to cushion the present hardship.


There were security officers on ground to control the crowd in order to avoid stampede.

"The food subsidy program has made a huge difference in my life. I no longer have to worry about where my next meal is coming from, and I can feed my family nutritious meals every day. This has helped us to stay healthy and strong,I'm very grateful for this program, which has made a real difference in my life."Says one of the beneficiaries. 
Expressing their utmost gratitude to the local government chairman for the initiative.
