Council Chairman Inspects Ibeju Lekki Canals to Mitigate Flooding Amidst Heavy Rains

In a proactive effort to address flooding caused by the heavy rains, Hon. Abdullahi Sesan Olowa, the Council Chairman of Ibeju Lekki Local Government, conducted an inspection tour with officials from the drainage services department. The tour covered various canals and drainage systems within the council area.

The inspection included visits to key sites such as the military quarters at Eleko, Ayeteju, Igando-Oloja, Elemoro, Kajola, Oribanwa, and Gbetu enroute Adeba.

At the military quarters in Eleko, it was noted that illegal shop constructions along the expressway drainage were obstructing the community entrance. In Ayeteju, Hon. Olowa reviewed the progress of ongoing drainage construction. At Elemoro, commercial haulage activities were found to be disrupting water flow, and the Kajola canal was choked with hyacinth.

In Gbetu Community, severe flooding had made the road to adjoining communities impassable, a major concern for the Council Chairman. State officials pledged to initiate remedial action. Last year, Hon. Olowa's administration had cleared the canal and reinforced the road with truckloads of stones to facilitate easier passage.

With the rains more intense this year, residents are urged to avoid actions that contribute to environmental degradation. They are also encouraged to support government efforts as measures to mitigate flooding will commence shortly.
