ICSS and LASU Hold National Security Summit, Emphasize Agenda, Community Engagement, Law Enforcement, and Technology

The Institute of Criminology and Strategic Studies ( ICSS ) in collaboration with the Lagos State University held its National Security Summit, in commemoration of this year's Democracy Day, on  Wednesday , 12th June, 2024, at the Faculty of Education of the University in Ojo.

The focus of the National Security Summit was mainly on the theme; "National Security Agenda : Community Engagement, Law Enforcement and Technology.

The Registrar General of the prestigious Institute, Dr Adekunle Aderemi, fcss, delivered the opening speech on behalf of the Chairman Governing Council, Dr Ade Abolurin, psc+ , OFR, DFCSS at the community engagement, fact finding and problem solving event, which was well  attended by various Security Agencies of the federation, Academics, Professionals, Captains of Industries, Chief Security Officers of corporate bodies, Civil Society Organizations, Volunteers, Youth Corps, Religious Institutions, Student Community and  Media Practitioners et ce tera. All participants at the Summit were charged to continue to strive on how to collectively ensure the effective security of lives and property of the citizens of our dear nation, Nigeria via the deployment of intelligence, effective participation and technology et ce tera.

The Commissioner of Police Adegoke Fayoade, mni was ably, represented by the Police Public Relations Officer, Superintendent of Police Benjamin Hundeyin at the event . He gave the keynote address at the event .

The lead speaker at the National Security Summit held at the Lagos State University yesterday, Wednesday, was Professor Omololu Soyombo, fcss, from the Department of Sociology, University of Lagos and the second speaker, Dr Chuks Maha, who also presented an insightful paper at the event.

A panel session was organized to also deepen conversations at the event. The Public Relations Officers of the Nigeria Police Force, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, National Drug Law Enforcement Agency and Nigeria Immigration Service in the state were invited to undertake the honereous task.

The Institute unveiled its National Executives for the year 2024 to 2026 at the event. It also honoured  deserving distinguished members of the society, from different walks of life, with Fellowship award at the National Security Summit. Those confered with Fellows include; Professor Elias Wahab, Professor Omobintan, Comptroller of Immigration, Bala Aliyu Dagana, Dr J. k. Adedigba, Mr Ayodeji Emmanuel Owoyomi, Mr Emmanuel Fanu, Dr Adeoye Kowiat Titilayo, Mrs Jimoh Lateefah Abimbola, Mr Jonathan Ojo, Mr Jonathan Ojo, Mr Ali Iliya, Mr Dennis Lesor Reuben.

The event gave room for interventions, contributions, inquiries, observations, questions suggestions from the various participants in a bid to x - ray the effect of community engagement, law enforcement and technology while pursuing the national security agenda of the nation.
