Nigeria Customs Service Mourns the Loss of Deputy Comptroller Etop Andrew Essien

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has announced with profound sadness the passing of Deputy Comptroller Etop Andrew Essien. Essien, who served as the Deputy Comptroller in charge of Revenue in the Account Unit, passed away on June 25, 2024, while making a presentation before the National Assembly House Committee on Public Accounts.

Approximately three minutes into his presentation, Deputy Comptroller Essien showed signs of discomfort and requested water. Despite immediate efforts to assist him, he sadly passed away.

Born on November 16, 1967, Essien joined the Nigeria Customs Service on November 27, 1989, and had served for over three decades. He hailed from Nsit-Ubium in Akwa Ibom State and was known for his diligence and exceptional service record. His role as the Deputy Comptroller of Revenue was crucial in ensuring accurate revenue reconciliation, a task he performed with utmost precision and dedication.

The Comptroller General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi MFR, on behalf of the entire NCS, extends heartfelt condolences to Essien's family. "The loss of such a dedicated and valued team member is deeply felt across the Service. We are committed to supporting his family and colleagues during this difficult time," said Adeniyi.

"Our thoughts are with his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing and working with him. His exemplary service and unwavering commitment to duty will be remembered and cherished by the entire NCS community. We honor his memory, and his legacy will continue to inspire us all."

Deputy Comptroller Essien is survived by his loving wife and children. May his soul rest in perfect peace.
