Murtala Muhammed Area Command Achieves Remarkable Revenue Collection in First Half of 2024

Lagos, Nigeria - The Murtala Muhammed Area Command, under the leadership of Comptroller Michael Toyin Awe, has reported impressive achievements in revenue generation and anti-smuggling efforts for the first half of 2024. 

Since assuming the role of Customs Area Controller, Comptroller Awe has implemented strategies aligned with World Customs best practices. These initiatives have facilitated ease of doing business, enhanced trade facilitation, reduced cargo clearance times, and significantly increased revenue generation.

From January to June 2024, the Command collected a total of ₦80,351,299,068.00 in customs duties and other charges. This marks a substantial increase compared to the ₦38,707,054,216.44 collected during the same period in 2023. The 107.5% increase represents a progressive difference of ₦41,644,246,851.56.

Additionally, the Command recorded exports valued at ₦266,655,113.66, with a Free on Board (FOB) value of $204,597.07, from January to June 2024.

Comptroller Awe reaffirmed the Command's commitment to sustaining and improving revenue generation in the second half of 2024. He called for continuous cooperation from all stakeholders and assured them of the Command's dedication to promoting ease of doing business and trade facilitation.

He commended the Officers and Men of the Murtala Muhammed Area Command for their dedication to combating smuggling and urged them to adhere strictly to the rules of engagement. 

Comptroller Awe expressed gratitude to Comptroller General of Customs Bashir Adewale Adeniyi MFR and his management team for their support. He also acknowledged the critical stakeholders, other security agencies, and the press for their continuous cooperation and objective reporting.
