Ogun II Area Command of Nigeria Customs Service Achieves 51% Revenue Increase in First Half of 2024

Abeokuta, Ogun State – On Friday, July 5, 2024, at 10:00 AM, the Customs Area Controller, Comptroller Olusola Bisi Alade, addressed the press in a briefing held at Abeokuta, Ogun State, to highlight the achievements of the Ogun II Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service for the first half of the year.

The Command reported a significant revenue increase, generating N12,830,493,630.06 from January to June 2024. This represents a 51% improvement compared to the N8,505,038,818.30 generated in the same period last year, marking an impressive differential of N4,326,454,811.76. Comptroller Alade attributed this success to the dedication, professionalism, and commitment of the officers and men of the Command, as well as their unwavering commitment to the growth of the national economy.

The Command's activities in free trade zones have also seen substantial success, with monthly revenue collections from April to June showing considerable growth. In April, the Command collected N3,486,961,186.71, followed by N2,801,833,739.40 in May, and an impressive N3,664,776,499.07 in June.

Several factors contributed to this revenue boost, including the motivation from the Management of the Service, continuous deployment of intelligence and reconnaissance, and the discovery of new factories now under excise control. These factories include Sygen Pharmaceutical Limited, Sprout and Kingsberg Nigeria Limited, Adesouthern Nigeria Limited, Abraham & Sarah Beverages Nigeria Limited, Oyinloye Honey Double Crown, Oluyemi Akintan Nigeria Enterprises, Lorna Nigeria Limited, Makindez Multi-business Ventures, Digo Herbal Remedy Limited, Broadway Food & Beverages Limited, Beezun Flavoured Drinks, and Nellyvan Global Limited (Bonded Terminal).

Comptroller Alade praised the cooperation and dedication of the officers and men of the Command, as well as the support from other units such as the Customs Intelligence Unit and Customs Police Unit. He also acknowledged the visionary leadership of the Comptroller General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi (MFR), whose principles of consolidation, collaboration, and innovation have driven these spectacular results.

In his concluding remarks, Comptroller Alade expressed his gratitude to the various factories for their timely payment of appropriate Excise Duty and other charges, urging them to maintain their compliance. He also thanked the Nigeria Customs Service Management and critical stakeholders for their continuous support and collaboration.
