“The selection of the winning design will lead to its local production, creating more jobs for our textile manufacturers. It’s the seemingly ordinary things that make brands like Hermès and Louis Vuitton great,” said Tinubu. She highlighted the role of non-governmental organizations in fostering business within the local economy, drawing parallels to initiatives from President Tinubu’s tenure as Lagos State governor.
Reflecting on her "Governor for a Day" program, Tinubu encouraged participants to aim for excellence. "During my husband's time as governor, we encouraged striving for the best. Participants who initially placed third in competitions have gone on to achieve first-class honors in various disciplines," she said.
The judging panel for the #ONE NIGERIA/Unity Fabric competition includes fashion industry experts Hajia Abba Folawiyo and Banke Kuku. Folawiyo mentioned her focus on creativity, excitement, and designs that unite Nigeria’s diverse tribes. Kuku stressed the importance of the design's core elements over color, which can be adjusted, and highlighted the competition's role in promoting careers in creativity.
The competition, which started in February and concluded on June 30th, offers a prize of N20 million.
