Abiodun Inspires Religious Leaders to Forge Paths of Peaceful Co-existence

Ogun State Governor Prince Dapo Abiodun has inspired religious leaders to play a pivotal role in fostering peaceful co-existence among different faith communities in the state. This call was made during the turbaning and installation ceremony of the new Chief Imam of Ijebu-Igbo, Sheikh Quasim Badejo. The ceremony took place at the playground of the Orimolusi of Ijebu-Igbo palace.

Represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Mr. Tokunbo Talabi, Governor Abiodun highlighted his administration's dedication to collaborating with religious leaders to ensure a harmonious environment throughout Ogun State. He emphasized that sustainable development hinges on maintaining peace and unity among the state's diverse religious groups.

During his address, Governor Abiodun urged Sheikh Badejo to use his new position to promote unity and peaceful co-existence across religious lines. He noted that the role of the Chief Imam carries significant influence and responsibility, and the new leader's actions could greatly impact community harmony.

The Governor emphasized the importance of moral values and community unity, urging Sheikh Badejo to foster these principles among the people of Ijebu-Igbo and its surroundings. “Your role as Chief Imam is not just a position of honour but a great responsibility,” Governor Abiodun remarked. “I encourage you to be a catalyst for unity and moral integrity.”

Governor Abiodun reiterated his administration's commitment to working with religious leaders to build upon the achievements made across the state. He stressed that peace and a conducive environment are essential for achieving long-term development and prosperity.

The ceremony was also marked by remarks from the Awujale and Paramount Ruler of Ijebuland, Oba Sikiru Adetona. Oba Adetona expressed confidence in Sheikh Badejo’s ability to provide effective leadership and mentorship to the Muslim community, praising his integrity and wisdom.

In a gesture of support, Awujale announced his plans to gift the new Chief Imam a brand new car. Additionally, he promised to construct a central mosque in Ijebu-North to accommodate all worshippers, further promoting unity and providing a dedicated space for religious practice.

Sheikh Quasim Badejo, in his acceptance speech, expressed gratitude to Allah for the honour and pledged to serve with dedication. He thanked the community for their support and committed to working towards the betterment of Ijebu-Igbo, emphasizing his intention to foster peaceful co-existence among diverse religious groups.

The new Chief Imam also acknowledged the Awujale’s generous gestures and expressed eagerness to collaborate with traditional and religious leaders to promote unity and peace. Sheikh Badejo assured the community of his commitment to leading by example and upholding the values of Islam.
