CGC Adeniyi Urges Customs Officers to Uphold Professionalism as 50 Graduate from Junior Course 19

Gwagwalada, Abuja – On Tuesday, August 27, 2024, at the Nigeria Customs Command and Staff College in Gwagwalada, Abuja, the Comptroller-General of Customs (CGC), Adewale Adeniyi, emphasized the importance of professionalism and continuous learning to the 50 officers graduating from Junior Course 19. The ceremony marked the culmination of three months of rigorous training designed to equip officers with essential skills for Customs operations and leadership.

Representing the CGC at the event, Deputy Comptroller-General of Customs in charge of Finance, Administration, and Technical Services, DCG Bello Jibo, addressed the graduates, urging them to remain ambassadors of the Nigeria Customs Service and to uphold the highest standards of integrity and professionalism in their careers. "The knowledge you have gained here is just the foundation. Your commitment to continuous learning and development will define your success," Jibo stated.

He further highlighted the significance of the college as a center of excellence within the Customs Service, noting that it plays a critical role in shaping future leaders who will navigate the complexities of global trade, security, and border management. "This institution has produced some of our finest officers, and I have no doubt that the graduates here today will continue that legacy," he added.

The event also featured remarks from the Commandant of the College, Assistant Comptroller-General of Customs Kingsley Egwuh, who conferred the title of Pass Junior Staff Course (PJSC) on the graduates. ACG Egwuh commended the students for their dedication and encouraged them to apply their newly acquired skills in their respective commands.

Deputy Commandant and Director of Studies, Comptroller Oluyomi Adebakin, reinforced the message of continuous learning, urging the graduates to transfer their knowledge to their subordinates and to remain good ambassadors of the Service. She emphasized the college's focus on research and professional development as key to addressing the challenges faced by Customs officers.

One of the graduates, Superintendent of Customs Ekene Ochi, expressed his gratitude to the college's management and staff for the robust training, stating that it had prepared him and his colleagues for the future. "We are grateful for the knowledge gained and the opportunity to serve the Nigeria Customs Service with renewed vigor," he said.

The graduation ceremony was preceded by a regimental dinner night on August 26, 2024, a tradition of the college to celebrate the accomplishments of the graduating class. DCG Jibo, who also attended the dinner as the Special Guest of Honour, described the event as an opportunity to foster camaraderie among the officers.

In his concluding remarks, DCG Jibo reiterated the importance of the training program in enhancing the professional growth of Customs officers. "This course is essential to building the capacity of our officers. The achievements we witness today are a testament to the success of this initiative," he concluded.

The event was attended by high-ranking officials, including Assistant Comptrollers-General, the Commandant of the College, and representatives from various military and paramilitary agencies, reflecting the CGC's commitment to inter-agency collaboration.
