In a significant crackdown on crime across the country, the Nigeria Police Force, led by Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, has announced the arrest of 2,726 suspects involved in various high-profile criminal activities. Within the past month, the police also recovered 150 firearms, 1,788 rounds of ammunition, and successfully rescued 207 kidnapped victims.
This remarkable achievement underscores the police force's unwavering commitment to public safety and the enforcement of law and order. The apprehended suspects, who have confessed to crimes ranging from armed robbery to kidnapping, were paraded before the media and the public, sending a strong message that criminal activities will not be tolerated.
Among the notable arrests is that of Hauwa Yusuf, a 30-year-old woman from Dutsin-Ma Local Government Area of Katsina State. She was intercepted along the Abuja-Kaduna Expressway while traveling from Lafia, Nasarawa State to Katsina. Upon searching the Sienna bus in which she was traveling, police discovered an AK-47 rifle and four AK magazines hidden inside a sack of garri. Yusuf later confessed that she was transporting the weapons on behalf of a notorious bandit operating in Katsina State.
IGP Egbetokun reiterated the police force's dedication to safeguarding the lives and property of all Nigerians, emphasizing the ongoing efforts to maintain peace and security nationwide. The police also called on the public to continue supporting law enforcement by providing timely information that could aid in the investigation and apprehension of criminal elements.
