In a commendable move towards environmental sustainability and community development, the members of the Customs Officers Wives Association (COWA) gathered in large numbers at Ebubu Customs Barracks, Port Harcourt, for a tree planting initiative. The event, which took place on Saturday 21st September 2024, aimed to promote ecological balance, contribute to climate action, and enhance the aesthetic value of the barracks environment.

Speaking at the event, the Chairperson of COWA Onne command, Hajia Amina A Babandede emphasi zed the importance of trees in combating climate change, stating, "Our actions today are a step towards ensuring a greener and healthier environment for future generations. Trees not only reduce the impact of global warming, but they also provide fruits and enhance the natural beauty of our surroundings."

 **Economic Trees for Environmental and Nutritional Gains**

The choice of economic trees—such as mango, guava, orange, and cashew trees—demonstrates a forward-thinking approach, combining environmental sustainability with economic empowerment. In addition to absorbing carbon dioxide and producing oxygen, these trees will eventually provide edible fruits, which can supplement the diets of residents and contribute to local markets.

Mrs. Tricia, another leading member of the association, further explained, "By planting these fruit-bearing trees, we are not only thinking about the environment, but we are also investing in the long-term well-being of our community.
