LASG Issues Stern Warning to Motorists Over Persistent BRT Lane Violations

The Lagos State Government has issued a firm warning to both private and commercial motorists to immediately cease the ongoing violations of the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) lanes across the state.

This directive comes after the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) impounded over 488 vehicles for violating BRT lane regulations between January and August 2024. All offenders were arraigned before the Lagos State Mobile Court for prosecution.

Motorists plying the Abule-Egba BRT corridor are specifically urged to desist from further infringements. The Lagos State Public Works Corporation (LSPWC) recently completed major road rehabilitation along the Abule-Egba to Iyana-Ipaja axis, particularly around the ‘Super Ile-Epo’ and ‘Katangura Market’ areas. With these improvements, the government emphasizes that using BRT lanes is now entirely unjustifiable.

The state government also reminds motorists using the Abule-Egba to Oshodi routes, passing through Iyana-Ipaja and Dopemu, to remain within the designated lanes. Any motorist caught using the BRT lanes unlawfully will be prosecuted by the Lagos State Mobile Court.

As Lagos State continues to invest in infrastructure upgrades to improve the lives of its residents, the government calls on all road users to cooperate by demonstrating discipline and patience, helping to create a safer and more efficient traffic system.

LASTMA operatives apprehended the 488 vehicles at strategic points, including Ikorodu, Maryland, Anthony, Apongbon, the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway, Ojuelegba, and Oyingbo.
