Nigeria Customs Service Board Confirms New Appointments and Establishes ICT Department
The Nigeria Customs Service Board (NCSB) has confirmed the appointment of two Deputy Comptroller-Generals (DCGs) and five Assistant Comptroller-Generals (ACGs) during its 60th regular meeting held on Tuesday, September 10, 2024. The meeting, which took place at the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) headquarters in Maitama, Abuja, was presided over by the Honourable Minister of Finance and Coordinating Economy, Mr. Wale Edun.

The newly appointed Deputy Comptroller-Generals are OA Alajogun and KI Adeola, while the Assistant Comptroller-Generals include IG Umar, MM Tilley-Gyado, BA Makinde, OA Salefu, and T Bomodi. These appointments were made in response to the statutory retirement of senior officers and in accordance with the Federal Character Policy, as stipulated by Section 14(4) of the Nigeria Customs Service Act, 2023.

In a significant move to further strengthen its operations, the Board also approved the upgrade of the ICT Unit to a full department, a decision initially made during its 59th regular meeting on May 14, 2024. This upgrade is aimed at advancing the NCS's ongoing modernisation efforts.

DCG KI Adeola has been appointed to oversee the newly established ICT-Modernisation Department. She will be supported by an Assistant Comptroller-General and five Comptrollers, with the mandate to drive digital transformation and improve the NCS's operational efficiency.

The Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, MFR, congratulated the newly appointed officers and urged them to intensify efforts in fulfilling their duties, particularly in revenue generation, trade facilitation, and the fight against smuggling—key areas critical to Nigeria's socio-economic development.

Abdullahi Maiwada, the National Public Relations Officer of the NCS, conveyed the news on behalf of the Comptroller-General on September 11, 2024.
