Nigeria Customs Service Participates in Global Trade Facilitation Meeting

Abuja, Nigeria - The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) recently participated in the 74th World Customs Organization (WCO) Harmonised System Committee (HSC) Meeting in Brussels, Belgium. The meeting, held from September 16-27, 2024, aimed to standardize the classification of goods for global trade.

Led by Assistant Comptroller Abubakar Hardo, the NCS delegation included Chief Superintendent of Customs Ekay Asuquo and CSC Lauretta Utubor, Team Lead for Advance Rulings. As a contracting party to the WCO, Nigeria's involvement in the HSC is crucial due to its large market index in Africa and high volume of imports.

The Harmonised System Nomenclature (HSN) is a vital tool for facilitating global trade, and the HSC plays a key role in managing and updating the system. Nigeria's participation in the meeting demonstrates its commitment to streamlining customs procedures and promoting economic growth.
