Police Launch Investigation into Officer’s Altercation with Elderly Woman in Lagos

The Lagos State Police Command has initiated a formal investigation into a recent incident involving a police officer and an elderly woman in the Alagbado area of the state. The altercation, captured on video, has since gone viral, prompting swift action from the authorities.

In an official statement released by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, the police confirmed that the investigation is already underway. "The Lagos State Police Command has commenced investigation into the circumstances surrounding the altercation between a police officer and an elderly woman," the statement read.

Preliminary findings indicate that the incident took place in the first week of September 2024 in Alagbado. The officer involved, a police inspector, and his supervising divisional officer, a deputy superintendent of police (DSP), have been brought in for questioning as part of the investigation.

The statement emphasized the Command’s condemnation of the inspector’s actions, noting that they were in violation of the Nigeria Police Force’s code of conduct and operational standards. The Lagos Police also confirmed that contact has been made with the elderly woman through the Complaint Response Unit.

“The Lagos State Police Command strongly condemns the unprofessional conduct displayed by the officer, which does not reflect the values and ethics of the Nigeria Police Force. We assure the public that the investigation will be swift, thorough, and conclusive, with the appropriate disciplinary actions taken against the officer involved,” the statement concluded.
