Tipper Truck Brake Failure Causes Multiple Injuries in Lagos Accident
Lagos, 04/09/2024— A serious accident occurred today under the Ajah Bridge on the Lekki-Epe Expressway, involving a tipper truck, a Rapid Response Squad (RRS) armored tank, and a Suzuki mini bus (JJJ 257 YJ). The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) responded promptly to the scene.

Initial reports indicate that the tipper truck suffered a brake failure while turning under the bridge, resulting in a collision with the stationary RRS armored tank. The impact caused the tank to move forward, hitting the Suzuki mini bus.
The collision led to four individuals being seriously injured, including a LASTMA officer who sustained a broken arm. Emergency services, including LASTMA personnel, Lagos State Traffic Police from Ajiwe Police Station, and RRS officers, quickly arrived to manage the situation. The injured were transported to a nearby hospital for urgent treatment and are currently receiving care.

LASTMA has expressed deep concern over the incident and is closely monitoring the condition of the victims. The General Manager of LASTMA, Mr. Olalekan Bakare-Oki, emphasized the importance of regular vehicle maintenance and adherence to traffic regulations to prevent such accidents. An investigation is underway to determine the exact cause of the brake failure.
Motorists are advised to cooperate with traffic authorities as efforts are made to restore normal traffic flow.
