New York, Sept 25, 2024 – Jill Biden, the First Lady of the United States, hosted a farewell lunch for visiting First Ladies, including Nigeria's First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, during the 79th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York.
In what she described as an impactful gathering, Jill Biden reflected on her years of interaction with global First Ladies, noting that this would be her last time hosting them as the First Lady of the United States. She expressed appreciation for the strong bonds formed through their shared efforts to promote peace and foster development in their respective nations.
Biden emphasized that these connections would continue beyond January 2025, when she is expected to step down from her role. “I feel confident that our paths will cross again in the future. I wish you all a safe journey back to your countries,” she said during the event held at Pier 57.
Such luncheons are customary during the UNGA, serving as important opportunities for world leaders and their spouses to strengthen diplomatic ties, discuss bilateral matters, and explore partnerships.
Senator Oluremi Tinubu's attendance at the lunch marked the conclusion of her engagements at the 79th session of UNGA.
