AIG Fayoade Adegoke Urges Public to Support Police Efforts at National Security Conference
Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) for Zone 2, Fayoade Adegoke, has called on the public to support
appreciate the efforts of the Nigerian Police Force (NPF). Speaking as a panelist at the 2024 National Security Conference, organized by the National Association of Online Security News Publishers (NAOSNP), AIG Adegoke highlighted the dedication and hard work of police officers nationwide. The conference, held in Lagos, focused on the theme “Connecting the Dots Between Identity Tracking and National Security.”
AIG Adegoke emphasized the importance of collaboration between security agencies in enhancing officers’ performance, particularly in identity tracking, which plays a crucial role in national security. “If the dots are effectively connected, it will significantly improve the performance of our officers,” he remarked.
While noting the existing cooperation between various security agencies, such as the Navy, Civil Defense, Air Force, and Army, AIG Adegoke acknowledged there is room for improvement. He explained that these agencies regularly collaborate, especially during national challenges, but further improvements in data collection would greatly enhance the ability to solve cases and apprehend criminals efficiently. "We are constantly connecting, but filling the gaps in data collection will boost our capacity to interpret cases more accurately," he added.
AIG Adegoke also addressed misconceptions surrounding the police force’s effectiveness. Refuting the notion that the police only act when high-profile individuals are involved, he stressed that the NPF works tirelessly around the clock to ensure the safety of all citizens. "We don’t just respond to incidents involving personalities; our officers are on duty 24/7, and we tackle every issue with the seriousness it deserves," he said.
Having recently served as the Commissioner of Police in Lagos, AIG Adegoke concluded by commending the dedication and professionalism of the police force, reiterating their commitment to maintaining law and order across the nation.
The National Security Conference brought together key stakeholders in the security sector to discuss ways to improve Nigeria’s security infrastructure, with a particular focus on integrating identity tracking systems to bolster national security efforts.
