Customs Host Sensitisation Workshop to Boost Trade and Service Delivery

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has successfully organised a sensitisation workshop aimed at enhancing trade facilitation and improving service delivery for licensed Customs Agents and Bonded Terminal Operators in Kano.

According to a statement released by the Customs Public Relations Officer, Superintendent of Customs Saidu Nuruddeen, on October 10, 2024, the event was part of the NCS's ongoing efforts to streamline its processes and support trade within the region.

The workshop, held at the Abdullahi Dikko Inde Conference Hall, attracted key stakeholders from both the customs and trade sectors. The initiative fostered stronger collaboration between the NCS, Customs Licensed Agents, and Bonded Terminal Operators, all with a shared focus on improving service efficiency.

In his remarks, Comptroller Dauda Chana, who represented the Comptroller-General of Customs, Adewale Adeniyi, underscored the importance of collaboration in promoting trade facilitation and tackling smuggling. "Sustained partnerships are essential to ensure the smooth functioning of Nigeria’s customs processes," he said.

Comptroller Funmilayo Fajana, of the License and Permit Tariff and Trade Department, reiterated the NCS’s commitment to simplifying customs procedures, enhancing transparency, and ensuring compliance with trade standards to strengthen Nigeria's global competitiveness.

Industry representatives at the workshop raised key issues faced by Customs Agents and Bonded Warehouse Operators, while also exploring opportunities for operational improvements. 

Deputy Comptroller Dalhatu Abubakar, who led a team of resource persons, delivered lectures covering critical topics such as customs regulations and trade facilitation. The workshop provided participants with insights into new laws and policies, equipping them to streamline customs operations more effectively.

The workshop concluded with a reaffirmation of the NCS’s dedication to facilitating legitimate trade while intensifying efforts to combat smuggling and other illegal activities, marking a crucial step towards enhancing the efficiency of Nigeria’s customs services.
