Nigeria Police Force Refutes Allegations of Underfunding, Corruption

– IGP Orders Probe into Alleged Misinformation

The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has refuted claims made in a recent report by Ecos Intelligence, which alleged inadequate funding, corruption, and minimal budgetary allocations to police divisions. The report, titled "Nigeria Police Force Faces Funding Scandal: N15,000 Allocation for 3 Months Sparks Corruption Concerns," suggested that divisional police operations were hampered by a lack of funds, forcing officers to rely on unofficial sources such as bail payments for operational expenses.

In a strong rebuttal, the NPF stated that no Divisional Police Officer (DPO) would grant such an interview, describing the report as false, misleading, and designed to tarnish the image of the Force. According to the NPF, each division receives statutory funding allocations from federal and state governments, and the allegations of a meager budgetary allocation are baseless.

In response to the report, the Inspector General of Police (IGP) has ordered a full investigation to identify the source of the alleged misinformation, emphasizing the Force’s commitment to transparency. While acknowledging the historical funding challenges, the NPF noted recent improvements in its financial support under the current administration, with significant increases anticipated in the near future.

The NPF reiterated its dedication to safeguarding the public and cautioned against malicious attempts to discredit the institution. It stressed that its officers remain committed to their duty of protecting the nation, undeterred by efforts to undermine their integrity.
