Arewa Youths to Gov. Lawal: Stop Political Witch-Hunts, Focus on Governance

The Arewa Reformers Network (ARN) has criticized Zamfara State Governor Dauda Lawal over alleged misuse of state funds, accusing him of prioritizing personal vendettas over meaningful governance. The group claims that Governor Lawal has been diverting resources to discredit his predecessor, Bello Matawalle, now the Minister of State for Defence.

Dr. Salisu Kabir, President of ARN, stated that instead of addressing critical issues like education, healthcare, and economic development, Governor Lawal is allegedly fixated on undermining Matawalle. Kabir suggested that Lawal’s agenda stems from a rumored 2027 presidential ambition, which ARN believes is distracting him from his current role as governor.

“The Arewa Reformers Network strongly condemns Governor Lawal's blatant misuse of Zamfara State’s resources for personal vendettas,” the statement read. “His fixation on Matawalle is wasting valuable resources that should be directed towards the development of the state.”

According to ARN, Governor Lawal’s alleged actions have contributed to growing discontent in Zamfara, as key sectors like education and healthcare are suffering from neglect.

The group also accused Governor Lawal of financing protests aimed at advancing his political ambitions. “This obsession has led to unnecessary expenditures, which only serve to undermine Zamfara’s development,” Kabir stated, calling on Lawal to halt such activities.

ARN further urged the governor to shift his focus to responsible governance and the transparent use of state resources. They called for an immediate audit of Zamfara’s finances and regular town hall engagements to keep constituents informed.

“We demand an immediate end to the governor’s witch-hunt against Matawalle,” Kabir added. “The people of Zamfara deserve better leadership, and we will continue to advocate for transparency and accountability in governance.”

The group emphasized the need for Governor Lawal to prioritize issues affecting Zamfara residents, calling his actions a “stark reminder of the importance of responsible leadership.”
