Customs Commission Newly Renovated Tin Can Island Port Command Office Complex

In a momentous event, the Comptroller General of Customs (CGC), Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, MFR, dsm, fnipr, psc(+), presided over the commissioning of the newly renovated Tin Can Island Port Command office complex. The event marked a historic milestone for the Command, which had not undergone any major renovation since its establishment in 1977.

The renovation, hailed as a transformation from outdated infrastructure to a modern, efficient facility, underscores the Nigeria Customs Service's (NCS) commitment to service excellence. The CGC emphasized that the project aligns with his administration's policy of Collaboration, Consolidation, and Innovation, aimed at enhancing working conditions and improving operational efficiency.

Speaking at the event, Customs Area Controller of the Tin Can Island Port Command, DA Nnadi, mni, highlighted the Command’s remarkable achievements under the new leadership. Notably, the Command generated over ₦1.125 trillion in revenue by November 2024—a record-breaking figure compared to ₦639.7 billion collected during the same period in 2023. This milestone reflects the hard work and dedication of the officers, as well as the collaborative efforts with stakeholders.

“This achievement is a testament to the effectiveness of our reforms and the unwavering commitment of our officers. It also underscores our role in driving Nigeria’s economic growth,” Nnadi stated.

In addition to revenue generation, the Command continues to enforce compliance and tackle smuggling activities, including the seizure of arms, unregulated pharmaceuticals, and other contraband. These actions reaffirm the NCS's commitment to safeguarding Nigeria’s borders and ensuring adherence to legal and regulatory standards.

The renovation also serves as a rallying point for stakeholders, including importers, clearing agents, and shipping companies, who were urged to maintain the facility's high standards. Nnadi encouraged all users of the complex to uphold cleanliness, safety, and compliance with operational guidelines to sustain the conducive working environment.

Nnadi extended gratitude to the Nigeria Ports Authority (NPA) management, the Port Manager of Tin Can Island, and the Comptroller General of Customs for their unwavering support and visionary leadership.
